The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) is a government agency in Nigeria responsible for formulating and enforcing quality standards for imported goods and domestically manufactured products. In order to ensure that regulated products comply with the country's technical standards or other international standards that have been approved for implementation, and to protect Nigerian consumers from unsafe or substandard products, the Nigerian National Bureau of Standards has decided to implement a mandatory pre-shipment conformity assessment procedure (hereinafter referred to as SONCAP) for regulated products exported to the country.

On March 1, 2013, the Nigerian Bureau of Standards officially released the new SONCAP operating procedures. In the future, each independent third-party agency will no longer directly issue SONCAP certification. Instead, exporters will apply for product conformity certification (COC) in the exporting country, and then importers will apply for SC certificates from the Nigerian Bureau of Standards (SON) with valid COC.

Starting from April 1, 2013, all regulated products exported to Nigeria are required to undergo compulsory certification (coc). Only by passing this certification and obtaining a coc certificate can they enter the Nigerian market for sale.
